REpower Systems (ETR: RPW), a Suzlon Group firm, has been awarded a contract to supply 8 3.2MW wind turbines to Romania, marking the first such business deal between the Indian company and Romania. The facility is scheduled to be commissioned in 2013.

Financial details were not revealed, though a Romanian subsidiary – REpower Systems DTE Romania SRL – has already been set up to be headquartered in Bucharest.

P.E. DEUS EX SRL, a project company of WSB International GmbH, awarded the contract. The Romanian facility will be located in Neamt County.

Suzlon is recognized as one of the world’s leading wind turbine manufacturers, but the company is plagued with significant debt problems and is trying to work out asset-shedding strategies.

Suzlon Group is based in India but headquartered in Hamburg, with design facilities in Osterrönfeld and manufacturing plants around the world. The WSB corporate group is headquartered in Dresden, and it is primarily in the business of wind and photovoltaic solar projects.
